A very calm and composed Shubman Gill played his heart out, helping Kolkata Knight Riders register a comfortable seven-wicket victory against Sunrisers Hyderabad in an Indian Premier League match on Saturday. Gill was in top form as he struck the ball around the park with ease and immaculate timing. Gill, who scored 70 off 62 balls, was adjudged ‘Man of the Match’.

Electing to bat first, Sunrisers Hyderabad didn’t really get going. The momentum they were looking for was made scare by a disciplined bowling attack. The Kolkata Knight Riders spinners spun the web around the batsmen as they struggled to score runs freely.

The likes of Sunil Narine, Varun Chakravarthy and Kuldeep Yadav made sure to keep the dangerous batting line-up of SRH silent with impeccable line and length. Pat Cummins, Shivam Mavi and Kamlesh Nagarkoti breathed fire, delivering unplayed balls one after another.

Manish Pandey, SRH’s lone warrior, scored a valiant 38-ball 51 as he tried scoring runs for his team. However, shortly after his fifty, he departed and that put the Hyderabad side on the back foot. It was all downhill for them from there. The David Warner-led side tried scoring runs but failed miserably.

With a target of 143 runs, Shubman Gill and Sunil Narine opened the batting for KKR. Although Narine was dismissed early, Gill kept the scorecard ticky with occasional boundaries and singles and doubles. Nitish Rana 13-ball cameo gave his team a head start and.

With Rana and captain Dinesh Karthik being dismissed cheaply, the onus lay on Gill and Eoin Morgan, who then steadied the ship and saw that their team is taken over the victory line. Beautiful strokes and calculating scoring was the highlight of the KKR’s innings. A massive 90-run partnership between Gill and Morgan saw that they win the match in an easy way.

KKR now stands fifth on the IPL points table and SRH is placed last.
