It is not very often that you see Mahendra Singh Dhoni upset
on the cricket field. One such incident occurred at the Sharjah International
Stadium on Tuesday during the Chennai Super Kings’ match against Rajasthan
Royals. Dhoni briefly seemed upset after a wrong decision of the
on-field umpire, that was rightfully overturned by the third umpire. However, this is not the first time that this has happened.

In the 18th over of the Rajashtan Royals’ innings, bowled by
Deepak Chahar, Tom Curran was adjudged caught behind, by umpire C Shamshuddin.
Curran was confident that he hadn’t nicked the ball, and wanted to review the
decision. But Rajasthan Royals did not have a review pending as Rahul Tewatia
had wasted the only DRS earlier in the innings.

Tom Curran started walking back, when Shamshuddin,
after consultation with the square-leg umpire Vineet Kulkarni, decided to refer the decision to the third umpire.

The replays showed that neither Curran edged the ball nor
did Dhoni catch it cleanly as it bounced before entering his gloves.

The decision was overturned but the veteran skipper looked
very unhappy and was seen giving Shamshuddin a piece of his mind as he went for
a referral after giving a decision.

Incidentally, in Jaipur last year, Dhoni had lost his cool
with domestic umpire Ulhas Gandhe in the match against Rajasthan Royals, for a waist-high full toss which wasn’t
adjudged no-ball.

In fact, Dhoni violated players’ code of conduct by entering
the ground and angrily charging at the umpire.

While his anger was a lot toned down during this incident
but whether domestic match referee VN Kutty takes a note of his conduct remains
to be seen.

It could either be umpires’ report or match referee can
himself take note if he deems necessary.
