Andre Onana after taking disciplinary action against him for getting into a
tussle with the coach Rigobert Song. Onana only featured as the goalie in Cameroon’s
0-1 loss to Switzerland before being replaced by Devis Epassy for the clash
with Serbia. Onana was packed off to Milan before Cameroon’s stunning 1-0 upset
of Brazil
.

Who is
Andre Onana?

Andre Onana
is a 26-year-old professional footballer who represents Cameroon and Inter
Milan as a goalkeeper. He was born on April 2 1996 to the Cameroonian couple
Francois and Adele in Nikol Ngok, Cameroon. He joined the Dutch club Ajax as an
18-year-old.

In February 2021, Onana was banned for a year by UEFA for
consuming a banned substance, Furosemide. The ban was later reduced to nine
months. In 2022, after having played in 214 matches for Ajax in a span of over
seven years, Onana moved on to the Italian Serie A club Inter Milan.

Onana got
his national call in May 2016 for an international friendly against France.
Onana played in the 2021 African Cup of Nations and was also named in the 2022
FIFA World Cup
squad of Cameroon. In an international career spanning six and a
half years, Onana has represented Cameroon in 34 matches with 14 of those
coming in 2022.

In the
aftermath of the controversies in the 2022 World Cup when he publicly
admonished the coach, he said, “I have put all my efforts and energy into finding
solutions to a situation that a footballer often experiences, but there has
been will on the other side”. “Some moments are difficult to assimilate,” he
added. The controversial Onana was sent back for disciplinary reasons.
