Cameroon’s Vincent Aboubakar was shown the red card after his shirtless celebrations were not tolerated by the on-field referee Ismail Elfath after he scored the only goal of the match in Cameroon’s shock 1-0 win over world number one Brazil in their final game of Group G of the FIFA World Cup 2022 at the Lusail stadium in Qatar on Saturday.

The 22nd FIFA World Cup in Qatar has seen only two red cards thus far, with Wales being the other side alongside Cameroon (both sides failed to move onto the knockouts). However, it is in stark contrast with the previous 2018 World Cup which saw 22 red cards. Unsurprisingly, Cameroon headed the list with 3 red cards along with the Cup winners France.

The win brought Brazil their first loss of the World Cup while also denying them the distinction of being the only team to have won all their group encounters. However, Brazil still finished as the group G winners ahead of Switzerland on goal difference (2 to 0) and will next take on South Korea (second in group H) in the round of 16.
