On Tuesday morning, ESPN analyst Bart Scott appeared on First Take to talk about the terrifying event involving Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin.

On Monday night, Hamlin collided with Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Tee Higgins and went into cardiac arrest. The Bills announced that Hamlin is in critical condition at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center.

In a startling change of events, Scott criticised Higgins’ collision with Hamlin during his time on live. “Right before the tackle, he lowers his helmet and throws his body into his chest,” Scott said of Higgins. These comments earned Scott severe criticism and reactions over Twitter.

Who is Bart Scott?

Bart Scott was born on August 18, 1980, in Detroit.  He is an American sports analyst and former football player. Scott was a linebacker in the NFL for eleven seasons.

Scott played college football for the Southern Illinois Salukis before being signed as an undrafted free agent by the Baltimore Ravens of the NFL in 2002. In 2006, Scott was chosen to play in the Pro Bowl. In 2009, Scott signed a contract with the New York Jets after spending his first seven seasons playing for the Ravens.

During Scott’s first three years with Baltimore, he was a special teams standout.  He did not, however, spend much time in the defensive rotation. He participated in all 16 of the regular season games during his first year, recording five defensive tackles and one interception while sharing the team lead with another player in special teams tackles with 17.

On September 8, 2002, he played for the Carolina Panthers in his NFL debut. Scott played in all 16 games and made 10 starts during the 2005 season as Ray Lewis missed time with a hamstring injury.

Scott was a free agent in 2009. He was in demand from both the Ravens and the New York Jets. Scott agreed to the six-year, $48 million contract with New York on February 27, 2009, following the Jets’ addition of a year to the original contract proposal. Scott played his final seasons with the Jets.

From 2013 through 2017, Scott worked as an NFL analyst for CBS television. At the moment, Scott works as the co-host of Bart and Hahn on ESPN Radio in New York City on weekdays.
