During the postseason, Brett Maher gained unwanted fame when he made the regrettable distinction of becoming the first NFL player to miss four extra points in a single game.

Who is Brett Maher?

Brett Maher is an American football placekicker who is currently a free agent. He started his professional career in 2013 after the New York Jets signed him as an undrafted free agent. Maher played collegiate football at Nebraska prior to entering the NFL.

On August 11, 2013, Brett Maher was given the chance to play for the Dallas Cowboys in the preseason. He was hired to act as a stand-in placekicker when Dan Bailey, the team’s usual kicker, was recovering from an injury.

Maher’s time with the Cowboys was, however, only briefly spent there. On August 27, 2013, he was let go by the team after only two weeks.

After releasing Jonathan Garibay, the Dallas Cowboys decided to sign Brett Maher to the roster on August 9, 2022. Maher was brought on largely to compete with Lirim Hajrullahu for the team’s placekicker by putting up a fight for the kicker’s spot on the roster.

Maher, however, was taken off the Cowboys’ active roster when they waived him on August 30, 2022. Despite this, the team recognized the potential in him and added him the following day to their practice squad. Maher had the chance to continue honing his abilities and stay on the team’s roster as a reserve by joining the practice squad.

Brett Maher was a standout placekicker for the Dallas Cowboys during the regular season while having difficulties in the postseason. His excellent success rate of 90.6% on 29 out of 33 field goals made it one of the best kicking performances in the history of the team. He did not, however, re-sign with the group, and chose to be a free agent.
