Former Kansas City Chiefs assistant coach Britt Reid made headlines on Monday, September 12, 2022, when he pleaded guilty to a DWI charge following a car crash last year that resulted in a severe brain injury of a five-year-old girl.

The authorities later revealed that Reid collided with another vehicle that had Ariel and another child sitting inside, at a speed of 84 mph. A subsequent test found that the ex-assistant coach’s blood alcohol concentration level was .113, 40% more than what is legal in Missouri, where the crash happened.

Who is Britt Reid?

Britt Reid is a former assistant coach of NFL side Kansas City Chiefs, who was born on April 28, 1985, in Los Angeles. He is the son of Andy Reid, the head coach of the Kansas City Chiefs. Britt played football for Harriton High School for four years and was also the captain of the team for three years. His alma mater is Temple University, where he pursued a bachelor’s degree in communications.

Reid was the outside linebacker coach for the Kansas City Chiefs in the NFL. However, the team did not renew his contract after their 2020 season Super Bowl defeat.

He has since pleaded guilty to the DWI charge against him. Under the plea deal, he is facing four years in prison. However, his attorney revealed that Reid was looking at seven years or more in prison if he was to be found guilty by a jury. His plea deal has since been criticised by the family of the victim, who also told it to the court, according to a release by the Jackson County Prosecutor’s Office.

“Mr. Reid accepted responsibility for his actions,” Reid’s attorney said JR Hobbs said. “Mr. Reid continues to be remorseful for his conduct and hopes that his plea brings some sense of justice to all he has affected,” Hobbs added.

This was also not the first time Britt had legal troubles and is facing prison time. He was sentenced to 8-23 months in jail with his brother Garrett in connection with running a drug emporium from their home in 2007.

A lawsuit was filed against Britt in 2007 when he pointed a gun at another person after a road rage incident. It was later settled out of court for an undisclosed amount in 2014.
