Demario Davis is an American football linebacker for the New Orleans Saints of the National Football League (NFL). Born on January 11, 1989, he played college football at Arkansas State and was drafted by the New York Jets in the third round of the 2012 NFL Draft.

In Indianapolis, Indiana, Davis participated in the NFL Scouting Combine and finished all of the positional drills. He participated in the 40-yard sprint (4.52 seconds), 20-yard dash (2.72 seconds), 10-yard dash (1.63 seconds), vertical jump (38.5 inches). Most NFL draft experts and scouts had Davis projected as a third round choice at the end of the pre-draft process.

In the third round (77th overall) of the 2012 NFL Draft, the New York Jets picked Davis. In 2012, Davis was selected as the eleventh linebacker. Davis signed a four-year, $2.81 million contract with the New York Jets on May 31, 2012, with a signing bonus of $618,000. In the Jets’ 48-28 victory over the Buffalo Bills in the season opener, he played in his first regular-season game as a professional. In 16 games and three starts during his debut season in 2012, he finished with 36 combined tackles (31 solo) and a fumble recovery. He made 15 tackles while participating on special teams.

He began the Jets’ 18-17 victory over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the season’s first game. He finished with eight total tackles. In 16 games and 16 starts, he concluded the season with 107 total tackles (63 solo), a pass deflection, a sack, and an interception. In 16 games and 16 starts, he concluded his third season with 116 total tackles (79 solo), five pass deflections, and 3.5 sacks.

After the 2015 campaign, Davis became an unrestricted free agent and was allegedly the subject of attention from numerous teams. On March 16, 2016, the Cleveland Browns agreed to a two-year, $8 million contract with Davis, which included a $2 million signing bonus and a $4.10 million guarantee. In 16 games and 16 starts, he concluded his one and only season with the Cleveland Browns with 99 total tackles (59 solo), two pass deflections, and two sacks.

The Cleveland Browns dealt Calvin Pryor and Davis to the New York Jets on June 1, 2017. He had a season-high 14 combined tackles (eight solo) and was given credit for half a sack in the Jets’ 21-12 loss in their season opener against the Buffalo Bills. In 16 games and 16 starts, he concluded the 2017 campaign with a career-high 135 combined tackles (97 solo), a career-high five sacks, and three pass deflections. 

On March 19, 2018, Davis signed a three-year, $24 million contract with the New Orleans Saints, with $16 million guaranteed and a $9.20 million signing bonus. Davis extended his contract with the Saints for a three-year, $27 million deal on September 12, 2020.
