The Netherlands advanced to the quarter-finals of the 2022 FIFA
World Cup
in Qatar after defeating USMNT in their round of 16 encounters. The
Dutch were leading throughout the match but after a 77th-minute goal by the USMNT, there was still hope alive for the opponents of the Netherlands.

Defender Denzel Dumfries scored back a goal to ensure a smooth 3-1
victory for the Dutch who will face the winner of Argentina and Australia in
the quarter-finals.

Who is Denzel Dumfries?

Denzel Justus Morris Dumfries is a 26-year-old professional footballer who
plays as a defender for the Netherlands and Italy’s Inter Milan. Dumfries was
born on April 18, 1996, at Rotterdam, Netherlands. He is named after the famous Hollywood
actor Denzel Washington. Born to an Aruban father, Dumfries represented Aruba
in professional football and made his debut for the country in March 2014.

Dumfries aspired to represent the Netherlands at the
international level. He got a national call for u-20 in March 2016 and later
played for the senior side on October 13, 2018. Dumfries represented the Dutch
side in the UEFA Euro 2020 and was also named in the 2022 FIFA World Cup squad.

After beginning his career in his hometown Sparta Rotterdam, he played for another Dutch club Eredivisie. In 2018 he signed a 5-year contract with PSV Eindhoven. He is representing
Inter Milan
in Serie A since August 2021 after being bought for 12.5 million Euros. Since joining the club, he has represented it in 65 encounters, scoring 7 goals.
