Herschel Walker, 60, of the Republican Party has been defeated by Democrat Raphael Warnock in the Georgia Senate runoff election. In the general election that was held in November, neither candidate could secure more than 50% of the votes.

The result of this poll has now secured Democratic control of the US Senate while the House of Representatives was won by the Republicans in the midterms.

Who is Herschel Walker?

Herschel Walker is an American politician who is the Republican candidate for the Georgia senate elections. He is also a former NFL running back, who played for several teams for 12 seasons during his career.

Herschel was born on March 3, 1962, in Wrightsville, Georgia, United States, to Willis and Christine Walker. He grew up in Wrightsville and has six siblings. Walker has maintained throughout his life that his maternal grandmother belonged to the Cherokee and has identified himself as Native American and Black.

He finished high school at the Johnson County High School in Wrightsville. Walker played football, and basketball and ran tracks during high school. After graduating, he joined the University of Georgia, where he also played football. He went on to win the Heisman Trophy in his freshman year in 1982.

He was picked by the Dallas Cowboys in the 1986 NFL draft and went on to earn successive Pro Bowl and second-team All-Pro honors between 1987-1988. The Dallas Cowboys traded him to the Minnesota Vikings in 1989, before he went on to join the Philadelphia Eagles and New York Giants. He made a return to the Dallas Cowboys later in his career before announcing his retirement. Herschel Walker was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 1999.

Following his NFL retirement, Walker joined politics. He was the co-chair of the President’s Council on Sports, Fitness and Nutrition under Donald Trump. The Republican Party nominated him as the candidate for the Senate election 2022, where he will be contesting against Senator Raphael Warnock of the Democratic Party.

Walker married his college girlfriend Cindy DeAngelis Grossman in 1983 and the couple filed for divorce in 2002. They had a son together named Christian. He later went on to marry Julie Blanchard in 2021.

As per the Atlanta Journal Constitution, Herschel Walker’s net worth is estimated to be around $65 million and he has a son named Christian.
