Madison Keys made headlines when she defeated Dayana Yastremska 7-6, 6-3 in the first round of US Open 2022. Keys is one of the several top WTA players to watch out for in the women’s draw at Flushing Meadows.

The American star had put up quite a performance at the recently held Cincinnati Open, where she defeated players like Yulia Putintseva, Jelena Ostapenko, World No. 1 Iga Swiatek and the winner of Wimbledon 2022 Elena Rybakina. Though she was beaten by Petra Kvitova, she fought till the end.

Madison Keys considers Serena Williams to be the big reason behind her decision to carry on with her professional tennis career. Keys played against her “forever idol” thrice, and every time, ended up on the losing side.

As Williams will be retiring after this year’s US Open, Keys recently confessed that she is sad because of the fact that she will not be able to play the 23-time Grand Slam champion again.

Madison Keys was born on February 17, 1995, in Rock Island, Illinois, United States. The Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) ranked her as high as world no. 7, which she first secured in 2016.

The American star has played in one Grand Slam Tournament final in her career, at the US Open 2017. She also made it to the WTA Finals in 2016, and she was also a semi-finalist at the Summer Olympics in 2016. The tennis star has been the winner of 6 WTA Tournaments. She secured her biggest title at Cincinnati Open 2019.

Keys is known for having a fast serve and one of the most powerful forehands in the game. She is one of the leaders of the next generation tennis players from America. The dresses that Venus Williams was wearing at Wimbledon had inspired Keys to start playing tennis.

She describes her playing style in the following way, “I have a pretty good serve and a pretty good forehand, but what people notice the most is how hard I can hit the ball and how much power is behind my shots.”
