Footballers collapsing on the pitch while playing an official game often make headlines. Chippenham Town FC defender Pablo Martinez also came to the fore when the defender collapsed on the pitch on Saturday, August 13, while playing a match against Chelmsford City FC.

The incident once again reminded football fans of a similar incident at the Euro 2020, when Denmark international midfielder Christian Eriksen suffered a heart attack and collapsed on the field. However, he received medical treatment immediately on the pitch and later recuperated and went back to playing football.

Martinez was also given emergency medical treatment on the pitch after he collapsed in the 27th minute against Chelmsford City in a National League South game. The match was abandoned thereafter and Chippenham Town later confirmed on Twitter that the centre-back had been stabilised and was breathing. Let’s take a look at who Pablo Martinez is.

Born on October 11, 2000, in Oxford, England, to a Spanish father and Welsh mother, the youngster represents Wales at the youth level. He is eligible to represent all three national teams. Martinez picked up an interest in football from a young age and joined the Reading FC academy. However, Martinez did not continue at Reading for a long time and after a couple of months, he enrolled at the West Bromwich Albion academy, where he graduated.

Martinez graduated from the West Bromwich Albion academy at an age of 16. However, the Baggies did not offer him a new contract and was released from the club when the 2019-20 season ended.

The starlet joined League One outfit Bristol Rovers in August 2020 and was sent to their development squad. He was sent on loan two months later to National League South outfit Oxford City, who were trying to gain promotion.

Martinez made his Oxford City debut a week later when he was used as a substitute in a 2-0 loss against Hampton & Richmond Borough. The defender scored his first senior goal on January 19, 2021, when he converted from the 35-yards to help Oxford open their account against Hemel Hempstead Town in a 5-3 win.

He later went back to Bristol City, where manager Joey Barton inducted him into the first team. He made his Bristol City debut on March 27, 2021, and made eight appearances before the team were relegated to League Two.

Bristol released Martinez when the 2021-22 season finished and the club gained promotion to League One. He then joined Chippenham Town on July 15, 2022.
