The world’s top two tennis players, Novak Djokovic and Carlos Alcaraz, square off for the Wimbledon men’s singles championship on Centre Court.

Novak was born on 22 May 1987 in Belgrade and is the son of Dijana and Srdjan Djokovic.

Who is Srdjan Djokovic?

Srdjan Djokovic is a Serbian businessman who was also a professional skier and coach. He is best known for being the father of tennis stars Marko, Djordje, and Novak Djokovic. He gained notoriety for his support of and devotion to his son Novak, as well as for a number of missteps and outspoken opinions in Novak’s favor.

Djokovic was born in Kosova Mitrovica to parents Stanka and Vladimir and grew up in the nearby town of Zvečan. He has a younger brother named Goran and a sister named Jelena. He moved to Belgrade after finishing high school to pursue a legal education, but he never completed it. The entire family eventually relocated to Belgrade. He employed himself as a ski instructor in the winter months at the ski areas of Kopaonik and Brezovica, where he first met Dijana, his future wife, in 1986.

Djokovic tried unsuccessfully to unseat Slobodan Zivojinovic as the head of the Serbia Tennis Federation in 2011. He was spotted with a pro-Vladimir Putin motorcycle gang known as the Night Wolves in January 2023 while the Australian Open tennis competition was taking place close to the Rod Laver Arena.

The envoy of Ukraine to Australia, Vasyl Myroshnychenko, demanded that Djokovic be disqualified from the tennis match that would follow. Djokovic later announced that he would skip the semi-final on January 27 in order to prevent any disruptions. Later, Srdjan Djokovic said that he mistook believed he was taking pictures with Serbian tennis fans and had no intention of posting with the pro-Russian mafia.
