Pittsburgh Steelers outside linebacker T.J. Watt accomplished a historic feat on Monday night. Deshaun Watson of the Cleveland Browns was sacked by Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker T.J. Watt in the second quarter, giving him an 81.5 career sack total and cementing his place as the team’s all-time sack leader.

Trent Jordan Watt aka TJ Watt was born on October 11, 1994. He is an American football player who plays as an outside linebacker for the Pittsburgh Steelers of the National Football League (NFL). He was drafted by the Steelers in the first round of the 2017 NFL Draft.

TJ Watt played college football at the University of Wisconsin. Watt was a finalist for the NFL Defensive Player of the Year award in 2019 and 2020. He signed a 4-year extension worth over $112 million, including $80 million guaranteed, with the Steelers, becoming the highest-paid defensive player in the NFL.

Coming out of Pewaukee High School, Watt was rated as a three-star recruit by various recruiting services.  Watt started his collegiate career with the Wisconsin Badgers. Due to a knee injury in the 2014 season, he did not play until September 2015.

The 26-year-old recorded 59 total tackles and 11.5 sacks during the 2016 season. Additionally, he recorded an interception and a defensive touchdown during the Badgers’ game against Purdue.

TJ Watt is also known to have received the first team All-American honors by Sports Illustrated and second team honors by The Associated Press for his game during the 2016 season.

As per the Steelers, “In 2019, Watt was named AP First-Team All-Pro as an edge rusher, and second team as a linebacker, after finishing the year with 14.5 sacks. He had multiple sack games four times, including two sacks against both the Rams and Dolphins, and a sack and a half against the Bengals and Colts. In addition to being voted team MVP for the first time in his career, he also was selected to the Pro Bowl.”

“Watt became the only NFL player since 2008 to have at least 14 sacks, 14 tackles for loss, 36 quarterback hits, eight forced fumbles and four fumble recoveries in a season. Watt is the first player in Steelers history with 14 plus sacks in multiple seasons, doing so in 2019 and 2020,” the franchise added.

TJ Watt got engaged this summer to longtime girlfriend Dani Rhodes who is a professional soccer player from Waukesha.
