The Twitter sign in front of the X HQ building in San Francisco was seen being removed as the company makes room for the brand-new X sign.

The company has occupied the office at the intersection of 10th and Market Streets since June 2012. According to reports, a few of the sign’s letters were spotted to have been removed and collected on the ground at around 12:45 p.m.

Workers were seen disassembling the metal signpost using an aerial work platform vehicle, also known as a cherry picker. At about 12:50 pm, San Francisco police officers could be seen talking with workers. There was a visible halt to work.

On the 10th Street side of the sign, only the letters “er” of the word “Twitter” remained as of 1:30 p.m., and the bird emblem was still present. Work had been halted at the location. The sign was still intact on the Market Street side.

When police arrived on the scene, they found out that someone from Twitter had a work order to take down the sign but had not informed security or the building’s owner. The confusion led to the calling of the police.

The entrepreneur Elon Musk renamed Twitter as X and introduced a new logo, signaling a focus on establishing a “everything app” after 17 years with an iconic blue bird emblem that came to symbolize the broadcasting of ideas to the world.

On Monday, Twitter’s website adopted a new logo that featured a stylized white X on a black backdrop; however, the blue bird could still be seen on the mobile app.

Musk has stated since assuming control of Twitter in October that he hopes to create an app that will provide users with a range of services outside of social media, including peer-to-peer payments, an idea that is similar to the immensely popular WeChat app in China.
