Another user added, “Kumar Sangakkara is great to watch during the #IPLAuction.”

On the other hand, some users pointed out Sangakkara looking worn-out and exhausted. “Sangakkara looks like he just flew economy class at the back where the seats don’t recline,” said one Twitter user.

During the ongoing auction, Rajasthan Royals picked Indian cricketers Ravichandran Ashwin and Devdutt Padikkal for Rs. 5 crore and Rs 7.75 crore respectively, New Zealand pacer Trent Boult for Rs 8 crore, and Guyanese cricketer Shimron Hetmyer for Rs 8.5 crore.

The franchise so far has been picking left-hand batsmen in the mega auction. Sangakkara was also a prominent left-hand batsman.

Reacting to the franchise’s decision, a Twitter user stated, “Has Sangakkara decided to buy all the lefties in the auction? With Jaiswal, Buttler, Samson and Hetmyer. Doesn’t make sense to buy Padikkal at such a cost. Buttler surely doesn’t enjoy being a finisher in the IPL. Padikkal as of now can’t bat anywhere other than opening.”

In conversation with India Today, the cricket icon had expressed the franchise’s elaborate assessment plans. “Our analytical assessments are detailed, right from the information we’ve collected on players to get them integrated into a central database. We further filter the data, backed with a robust analytic process that enables us to arrive at the right metrics further refining our overall player identification process. It’s really quite a comprehensive process,” he said.
