Amazon Quiz (7th September 2021): The US Air Force released an artistic rendering of its new B-21 stealth bomber, known by which nickname?

(a) Blackbird

(b) Aardvark

(c) Raider

(d) Enigma

Answer: Raider

The US Air Force introduced a new B-21 Raider artist rendering graphic, along with an information sheet.

The rendering depicts the future stealth bomber against the backdrop of Edwards Air Force Base in California. The 420th Flight Test Squadron, stationed at Edwards Air Force Base, will plan, test, evaluate, and report on all B-21 Raider flight and ground testing.

The Engineering and Manufacturing Development phase of the B-21 programme aims at expanding manufacturing infrastructure and capacity throughout the industrial supply chain in order to prepare for low-rate beginning production. The aircraft’s design is mature and stable, according to a critical design assessment completed in 2018.

The B-21 will be a visible and versatile component of the nuclear triad, designed to execute long-range conventional and nuclear missions as well as function in tomorrow’s high-end threat environment. The US Air Force Rapid Capabilities Office director, Randall Walden stated, “Nuclear modernization is a top priority for the Department of Defense and the Air Force, and B-21 is key to that plan,”

The Air Force intends to gradually replace the B-1 Lancer and B-2 Spirit bombers with B-21s and upgraded B-52s to establish a two-bomber fleet. The B-21 programme is on schedule to deploy B-21s to Ellsworth AFB in South Dakota, the first operational facility, in the mid-2020s.
