The Pembroke Welsh Corgi is a cattle herding dog breed that originated in Pembrokeshire, Wales. Corgis are famous as the preferred breed of Queen Elizabeth II, who has owned more than 30 Royal corgis during her reign.
They also remain very popular in the United States. Cities such as New York, Boston, Los Angeles, and San Francisco hold annual ‘Corgi Meetups’. According to the American Kennel Club, Pembroke Welsh Corgis were ranked the 11th most popular breed of dog in 2020.
The Queen ceased breeding corgis around 2012 so as not to leave any behind after she dies; her last corgi, Willow, died in April 2018. She was gifted two new corgi pups by her family in 2021.
