Meghan Markle and Prince Harry bared it all in a tell-all interview with Oprah Winfrey, on Sunday. The two-hour interview is the biggest royal tell-all since Harry’s mother Princess Diana’s bombshell interview in 1995. Markle and Prince Harry accused the British Royal Family of fretting over how dark her son’s skin would be.
“In those months when I was pregnant… we have in tandem the conversation of ‘he won’t be given security, he’s not going to be given a title’ and also concerns and conversations about how dark his skin might be when he’s born,” Markle said.
While the interview put spotlight on the rift in the royal family, here are some of the Twitter reactions, which encapsulates the whole interview.
In one excerpt, Meghan, who is pregnant with the couple’s second child, accused the royals of orchestrating a calculated smear campaign and “perpetuating falsehoods” about them.
That came hours after revelations she was facing an internal palace investigation into claims that she bullied royal household staff after she and Harry married in a fairytale wedding in 2018.
Prince Harry also said he felt “really let down” by his father as he and his wife Meghan opened up about quitting Britain over her harsh treatment by the British press and the lack of support from the royal family.
The interview was reportedly sold to US broadcaster CBS for $7-9 million (£5.1 million to £6.5 million, 5.9 million to 7.6 million euros). According to an AFP report, Winfrey also retained international rights, which will feed an appetite of interest about Britain’s centuries-old monarchy — and their troubles — across the globe.
