Former United States Vice President Mike Pence was trolled on social media for suggesting that Donald Trump should not face criminal charges for his role in the Capitol Hill insurrection.

In its final meeting on Monday, the committee voted to refer criminal charges to the Department of Justice for Donald Trump and his lawyer John Eastman for their role in the riots.

Responding to the decision of the committee, Pence said that Trump’s actions were reckless but they don’t deserve criminal proceedings.

“I would hope the [DOJ] would not bring charges against the former President…I think the President’s actions and words on Jan. 6 were reckless, but I don’t know that it’s criminal to take bad advice from lawyers,” he said in a TV interview.

Following his comment, the 63-year-old was trolled on Twitter.

“@Mike_Pence should not hold public office again if he really believes this. What the former VP is saying is what is reckless! He would let this happen again,” one user tweeted.

“Is it just me -and I’m not a doctor nor do I play one on TV, but I’m thinking Pence has Stockholm Syndrome. Am I right?” a user said.

“Why pence is asked about or given any credibility is beyond me. He ought to be asked about his part in this whole mess. He knew what tfg was and that he would be expected to be less than ethical,” said another.

“I have watched enough happen in the last 6 years or so and now feel that some Republicans have been bought by the Dems. The first one I wondered about was VP Pence. The second was Mitch McConnell. But that’s just my opinion,” is the opinion of another.
