A small tornado has hit Texas near its southern border, killing at least two people and injuring dozens more on Saturday morning. The tornado touched down at around 4 am in Texas’ Laguna Heights, located about 180 miles south of Corpus Christi, according to the National Weather Service.

The two deceased have been identified by the authorities as an adult male named Robert Flores and a female child. Officials have mentioned that they are on the hunt for further victims near Texas State Highway 100, which provides access to Laguna Heights.

The Post Isobel Police Department has confirmed the casualties, adding that crews are working on clearing the debris. They further stated that the Port Isabel Event Center is open for the public to take shelter.

Highway 100 has been shut in both directions between Laguna Heights and South Padre Island by the authorities due to damage. The Salvation Army has also informed that they have sent a team to help in the town. Cameron County Emergency Manager Tom Hushen told Valley Central that officials are searching through Highway 100 and Van Buren for additional victims.

Social media users have shared pictures and videos of destroyed homes and massive emergency service response attending the town. Wrecked cars, uprooted trees, and homes without roofs can be seen in these pictures and videos.

The National Weather Service, which has also reached the site, has claimed that there is no flooding on the Rio Grande and no expectations for any such events. However, heavy rainfall is expected throughout Saturday. It mentioned that there is still some lightning, but there is an improvement in storm conditions.

Through Friday evening, the National Weather Service issued tornado watches for many counties in Nebraska and Kansas, and further severe weather warnings have been issued from Missouri to Texas.
