A man involved in the deadly stabbing of Brooklyn activist Ryan Carson is currently being held without bail. The man has been identified as Brian Dowling and was arraigned on Thursday night.

Sadly, Carson tragically died from what appears to be a mindless and unjustified act of violence while waiting for a bus with his girlfriend early on Monday. According to reports, Carson stood between his attacker and his girlfriend before the fatal attack.

Who is Brian Dowling?

Brian Dowling is 18 years old. He is accused of criminally possessing a weapon as well as murder with callous disregard.

Dowling was found inside his Lafayette Avenue home by officers who were carrying out a search warrant there on Thursday.

Two more people were able to positively identify Dowling thanks to surveillance footage that the police were able to secure that showed the murder taking place.

Law enforcement sources said that officers found the sweater that Dowling appeared to be wearing in the CCTV photographs while searching the property. They also took possession of a knife, which will be tested to see if it matches the murder weapon.

According to Joseph Kenny, chief of detectives for the NYPD, neither Carson nor his girlfriend had ever met the suspect before.

Police reports state that the video shows the suspect producing a knife. Carson fell over a bench while attempting to retreat. The guy is seen in the footage stabbing someone while lying on the ground. In the same video, a lady who is thought to be Dowling’s girlfriend apologizes to the couple while using the suspect’s first name.

NYPD Chief Robert Boyce in a statement said, “This is a rage homicide, it’s rare in NYC and thankfully so, but a terrible incident. Just walking down the street you get stabbed to death. That’s really dangerous for the city to incur. People don’t feel safe when this happens.”
