A man who shot and killed a 9-year-old girl while she was bouncing on a trampoline in north Minneapolis in 2021 was given a 37 1/2-year jail term on Tuesday.

D’Pree Shareef Robinson, aged 20, received a sentence for shooting Trinity Ottoson-Smith to death in Hennepin County District Court. On May 15, 2021, Trinity was shot in the head when she was on a trampoline during a friend’s birthday celebration. She was treated at North Memorial Health Hospital in Robbinsdale, but sadly, she died 12 days later.

Who is D’Pree Shareef Robinson?

D’Pree Shareef Robinson is 20 years old and hails from Minneapolis. Robinson pleaded guilty to second-degree intentional murder on March 6. He did this in order to avoid going to court on a first-degree premeditated murder accusation, which may result in a life sentence without the possibility of release.

However, Robinson, who claimed he was under the influence of painkillers when he consented to the 450-month term, filed a move to withdraw his plea on April 18. Last Monday, a judge rejected the motion on the grounds that there wasn’t enough proof to back up his assertions.

Following the sentencing, Hennepin County Attorney Mary Moriarty released a statement in which she offered her condolences for Trinity’s family and recognized the severe suffering they have experienced over the previous two years. She noted that no family should have to experience such a heartbreaking loss as a result of senseless gun murder and drew attention to the delays in receiving legal closure on the criminal case.

The incident was a drive-by shooting, the criminal complaint claimed, based on video footage. The trampoline was situated between the intended targets and Robinson in the video, which showed them set up on a side porch of the home.
