Satnam Sumal walked into the police department and allegedly told officials that he fatally shot and killed his wife and his wife’s girlfriend in a wealthy California city. 

Police identified two victims as Satbinder Singh, 39, and Nadjiba Belaidi, 37. Both were found dead in their Tracy, California home on Monday, police said in a statement.

Who is Satnam Sumal?

Satnam Sumal surrendered to police and allegedly confessed that he killed his wife and his girlfriend, according to police. He is 55 years old. Sumal shot both victims with a .40-caliber handgun, as per the criminal complaint.

Sumal and Satbinder Singh were in an open relationship and living together with Belaidi. Investigators are still working on a motive. 

However, Sumal was arrested and charged with two counts of murder. The 55-year-old was booked in San Joaquin County Jail.

“In my 20-some-odd years in law enforcement, I can’t think of that ever happening,” Tracy Police Sergeant Michael Richards said, reported CBS.

The crime occurred at a home on Sunflower Lane in the city that the US Census Bureau listed as the top 100 wealthiest cities in the country. 

Karuppiah Karuppiah, a neighbor, said he did not know anything about the relationships of the people living in the home and was surprised that violence played out so closely.

“It is really scary, and it’s very unfortunate in this community this happened, and I feel very bad about it,” Karuppiah said.

According to a CBS report, a neighbor said two children under 10 lived at the home but were not home when the shooting took place.

San Joaquin County District Attorney Ron Freitas said that his office’s “thoughts are with the Tracy community.”

Sumal is likely to appear in court on Wednesday, May 31.
