The 36th National Games were held in Gujarat from September 29, 2022 to October 10, 2022. The cities Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar, Vadodara, Surat, Rajkot, and Bhavnagar served as the venues of the event.

The multi-sport event was inaugurated by India’s Prime Minister, Narendra Modi. At the inauguration, Modi, who had earlier served as the chief minister of the state, said to the participating athletes, “Your victory in sports will pave the way for the country’s success in other fields. The soft power of sports will significantly improve our country’s image”.

The inauguration was attended by notable Indian athletes like Neeraj Chopra, PV Sindhu, Ravi Dahiya, Mirabai Chanu, Gagan Narang, Hockey India chief and former India captain Dilip Tirkey, as well as Anju Bobby George.

An Asiatic lion and the Statue of Unity are featured in the event’s logo since these are two of the most famous attractions of Gujarat. The logo was revealed on July 22, 2022.

Among all the participating states, the Indian Armed Forces’ Services Sports Control Board emerged as the most successful side in terms of gold wins. The Services managed to bag 128 medals across all events, winning 61 gold, 35 silver, and 32 bronze medals.

Athletes from Maharashtra took home the highest number of medals- 140, and were followed by Haryana’s 116 wins.
