RK/Rkay is a Bollywood comedy-drama film written and directed by Rajat Kapoor. The movie stars Kapoor along with Mallika Sherawat, Kubbra Sait, Ranvir Shorey and Manu Rishi Chadha. The film, which has been screened and appreciated at several international festivals including Shanghai International Film Festival, Austin Film Festival, released theatrically in India on July 22, 2022 and won critical acclaim, with critics calling it an engrossing watch.
Actor, writer, and director Rajat Kapoor is a versatile individual. Delhi, India is where Kapoor was born. His early adolescent interest for movies led him to Pune to study at the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII).
Beginning in parallel cinema, Kapoor made his acting debut in the 1989 Kumar Shahani film Khayal Gatha. Later, he started to write and direct scenes.
The film Private Detective: Two Plus Two Plus One was directed by him (1997). In the 2001 film Dil Chahta Hai, where he played Preity Zinta’s uncle, Kapoor received his significant popular debut. His role in Mira Nair’s Monsoon Wedding garnered him widespread attention. He has since written, directed, and starred in a number of critically acclaimed movies, such as Corporate, Bheja Fry, Siddharth: The Prisoner, and Iti Mrinilani (Bengali Film).
He co-wrote and directed the independent movie Raghu Romeo in 2003, which took home the prize for Best Feature Film in Hindi at the National Film Awards.
Two further National Awards have been given to Kapoor, first for the non-feature documentary Tarana and subsequently for the short film Hypnothesis. He has done roles in TV serials like Kabhie Kabhie), Agnipariksha, Vansh, and Amar Prem. He hosts the three-weekly discussion programme Lounge, which is shown on NDTV Good Times.
