Jacques Cartier bridge is a steel truss cantilever bridge that spans the Saint Lawrence River in Canada from Montreal Island to Longueuil on the south side. In the middle of the river, the bridge passes across Saint Helen’s Island, where exits lead to Parc Jean-Drapeau and La Ronde amusement park.

It was renamed in 1934 to honour the 400th anniversary of Jacques Cartier’s maiden journey up the St. Lawrence River. Before, it was known as the Montreal Harbour Bridge.

The entrance to Île Sainte-Hélène has a bust of Jacques Cartier that was given by France. The bridge adheres to the Quebec Bridge’s general architectural philosophy. In turn, it served as one of the design inspirations for Brisbane, Australia’s Story Bridge, which was finished in 1940. The designers of the J. C. Van Horne Bridge, which crosses the Restigouche River between Campbellton, New Brunswick, and Pointe-à-la-Croix, Quebec, were probably influenced by its massive steel structure of major portion. Not until 1958 was this bridge constructed.
