Amazon Quiz: This is the Grand Palace in which city?
Options:
Jakarta
Bangkok
Kuala Lumpur
Tokyo
Answer- Bangkok
A complex set of buildings right in the heart of Bangkok, The Grand Palace has been serving as the residence of the King of Thailand, and formerly of the King of Siam, from 1782. Until the year 1925, the king’s court was held at the Grand Palace grounds.
King Phutthayotfa Chulalok, popularly known as King Rama 1, had ordered the construction of the palace when he first came to power by defeating King Taskin. The area on which the temple is built was earlier occupied by Bangkok’s Chinese community. King Rama 1 asked them to relocate away from the city, and the entire community set up their base in the place that is now known as Bangkok’s Chinatown.
The inner court of the palace, also known as the “Khet Phra Racha Than Chan Nai”, is located at the palace’s southernmost part. This area is usually reserved for the King and his queens as well as consorts.
The palace is also home to the Temple of the Emerald Buddha (Wat Phra Kaew), which was built in 1783, only a year after the palace’s construction. Within the temple, the world-renowned idol, the Emerald Buddha, has been kept since 1784. However, the idol has been around since 1434, and had travelled across Thailand for around 350 years before finding a permanent place at the Grand Palace.
