Natasa Pirc Musar, won second round of Slovenia’s Presidential elections. She became the first female President of Slovenia. She won 58.86% of votes in the runoff, while the opposition right-wing politician and the former Foreign Minister Andze Logar won 46.14% of the votes. She replaced Borut Pahor.
Natasa Pirc Musar is an Attorney, book author, former Information Commissioner, Journalist, and the former President of Slovenia’s Red Cross. She is known for her rulings and the books on freedom of information, high-profile legal cases, in which she represented Slovenia-born Melania Trump, the Social Democratic Political Party of Slovenia, and other notable clients.
Musar was born in 1968 in Ljubljana. After graduating from the Faculty of Law of the University of Ljubljana in 1992. She cleared the national bar examination in 1997. After finishing her studies, she was employed for six years at the Slovenian national television as a news presenter and journalist for the main news program TV Dnevnik. She also worked at CNN and studied at the Media Department of Salford University in Manchester in the UK for two semesters.
In 2002, she moved to the financial sector, where she joined the largest Slovenian private financial corporation, Aktiva Group, as Head of Corporate Communications.
Pirc Musar is married to the businessman Ales Musar. The couple has a son.
In 2004, the National Assembly elected her the second Slovenian Commissioner for Access to Public Information. She was nominated for this position by the President of the Republic of Slovenia. From 2015 until 2019 she was a member of a jury at Journalism Fund in Brusseles evaluating grant proposals for journalistic investigative stories. Since 2021 Natasa is a member of the Executive Board of the Slovenian Bar Association.
