The ICC T20 World Cup 2022 is continuing in full flow. The group stages of the tournament finished on October 21, when Zimbabwe beat Scotland to qualify for the Super 12. However, another team which failed to qualify for the Super 12 of the tournament, which began on October 22, was Namibia.
The Namibia cricket team was part of Group A in the group stages and finished in third place, meaning they were knocked out of the tournament. Asia Cup 2022 champions Sri Lanka finished at the top position of the group, followed by The Netherlands in second place, and qualified for the Super 12s.
Meanwhile, Namibia (third) was joined by the United Arab Emirates (fourth) in Group A in being knocked out of the ICC T20 World Cup 2022. They registered one win and two losses in the group stages with a net run rate of +0.730 and two points before they were knocked out of the tournament.
Namibia’s only win of the T20 World Cup 2022 came against Sri Lanka in their campaign opener on October 16. They won the match by 55 runs after scoring 163 runs for seven wickets and bowling Sri Lanka all out for a meagre 108 runs in 19 overs.
However, while they began their T20 World Cup 2022 campaign brightly, Namibia was handed two consecutive losses against the Netherlands and the UAE on October 18 and October 20 respectively, meaning they failed to qualify for the Super 12 of the tournament.
Meanwhile, the Namibia cricket team registered a win over Group B leaders Ireland in their warm-up match ahead of the T20 World Cup 2022 campaign on October 11, when they won by 11 runs. The African side scored 138 runs for four wickets in 20 overs in that match and bowled Ireland out for 127 runs with one ball left.
