At least 84 people have died in flood-related incidents in Assam. The floods in the state this year have also claimed the lives of over 100 animals at the Kaziranga National Park and Tiger Reserve. Over 70 lakh people across 33 districts in Assam have been affected by the floods. 

The Brahmaputra river is flowing above the danger level in several districts, including Dhubri, Goalpara, Nimatighat in Jorhat. While the Barak river is flowing above the danger mark at AP Ghat in Cachar and at Badarpurghat in Karimganj.

Goalpara is the worst-hit district with over 4.53 lakh people affected, followed by 3.44 lakh in Barpeta and 3.41 lakh in Morigaon.

“Central and State government are providing all kinds of assitance to people,” Assam CM Sarbananda Sonowal told ANI.

“Over 70 lakh people have been affected due to Assam Floods. People as well as animals are being rescued from the affected areas and being shifted to relief camps and safer locations,” Sonowal told ANI.  

Prime Minister Modi Sunday morning called up Sonowal assuring all support to Assam in dealing with the flood havoc. “Expressing his concern & solidarity with the people, the PM assured all support to the state,” he had said.

The Assam State Disaster Management Authority  (ASDMA) said the authorities are running 521 relief camps and distribution centres across 18 districts, where 50,559 people have taken shelter.

Currently 2,400 villages are under water and 1,12,138.99 hectares of crop areas have been damaged across Assam. The flood has also affected 25,85,294 domestic animals and poultry across the state.
