French President Emmanuel Macron was slapped by a man during a trip to southeast France on Tuesday, reported AFP quoting an aide.

According to images on the BFM news channel, Macron approached a barrier to shake the hand of a man. The man slapped the 43-year-old President across the face in the village of Tain-l’Hermitage in the Drome region.

Two people have been detained after the incident, said an official.
