The debut of Minnie Mouse’s first-ever pantsuit has prompted many people to criticize the character’s new dress.

Disneyland Paris on Tuesday announced that Minnie was temporarily ditching her iconic red-and-white polka dot dress in honor of Disneyland Paris’ 30th anniversary.

Minnie will be seen in a navy blue pantsuit with black polka dots and her signature bow created by British fashion designer Stella McCartney.

McCartney in a statement published by D23, the official Disney fan club, said, “I wanted Minnie to wear her very first pantsuit at Disneyland Paris, so I have designed one of my iconic costumes—a blue tuxedo—using responsibly sourced fabrics.”

“This new take on her signature polka dots makes Minnie Mouse a symbol of progress for a new generation. She will wear it in honor of Women’s History Month in March 2022,” he added.

While the new look generated discussion on social media, some said the pantsuit was unflattering.

While one Twitter user wrote, “Ugly and I hate it,” others complimented the idea and said that it could have been a cuter design.

“The idea of the pantsuit is so cute, but we gotta have the iconic Minnie Mouse colors to go with it!” wrote another Twitter user.

Some also pointed out that the navy blue matched the anniversary colors, and also aligned with what Minnie typically wears in Disneyland Paris.

Minnie’s makeover news came just a week after Mars Inc., M&M’s parent company, announced that the beloved M&M characters were redesigned to become more “inclusive.”
