Princess Diana’s son, Prince William broke his silence on the “deceitful” 1995 interview of his mother and further added that it resulted in a worsening relationship between her and husband Prince Charles.

The efforts of Prince William were facilitated by his younger brother and Duke of Sussex Prince Harry. He said, “The ripple effect of a culture of exploitation and unethical practices ultimately took her life”, reported AFP.

Prince William blamed the interview for his mother’s paranoia and isolation while stressing that the piece should never be aired again.

He said, “It brings indescribable sadness to know that the BBC’s failures contributed significantly to her fear, paranoia and isolation that I remember from those final years with her”, reported AFP.

The Duke of Cambridge went on to say that he is “most saddened” about his mother not knowing she had been deceived.

Princess Diana’s brother Charles Spencer also lashed out about the interview on Thursday and said that the 1995 interview contributed towards the death of his sister.

The series of statements from the royal family members come after an independent report found that BBC journalist Martin Bashir used “deception” to secure the famous 1995 interview with Princess Diana. The report has also found that the broadcaster “covered up” the tactics used by the journalist.
