The Australian cricket team made light work of Bangladesh in their ICC men’s T20 World Cup Super 12 group 1 match at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, on Thursday night.

Bangladesh, after being invited to bat by Australian captain Aaron Finch, were wrapped up for 77 in 15 over. Australian spinner Adam Zampa returned with five wickets under his belt.

Talking about the loss, Bangladesh captain Mahmudullah said: “You can’t say a lot of things when you perform like this. We did some silly mistakes and lost.

“We need to look at a lot of things. One of the best wickets that we played. We need to figure out our batting. T20 game, you need to have a good PP. You need to have proper power players at the top. Before coming to this WC, we needed some wins under our belt. As professional cricketers though we need to adapt to any conditions,” the Bangladesh captain added.

“Hope our fans keep supporting us and we will bring them some results,” he added.

What did the winning captain say?

“Starc in the first over and Hazlewood in the second set it up for us. You never plan in T20s. If you get the plan wrong, you can be on the other side. At the halfway mark we knew the equation and tried to finish it off as soon as possible. You need to take your opportunities in this format,” Australian captain Aaron Finch said.

“The ball did swing for Mitch. Zampa did well in the middle as well. We have to play well against West Indies. We need to control what we can. The four-day break came at the right time for us after the thumping we had,” the right-handed batsman added.

Adam Zampa was declared the man of the match.

“First 5-fer it is always a pretty nice feeling. I have been playing for 5-6 years and that’s one eluded me for a while. I think I had three overs between that over and the hat-trick ball, I thought I was the only one who knew (about the hat-trick ball).. but if it wouldn’t have been for Wadey’s hands I wouldn’t be getting so many wickets,” Zampa said.

“He’s been keeping beautifully well, tough catch but just happy with the win. I think it (wrist spinners being successful) is a bit of both (conditions and skill). The quicks have been tough to score off in the powerplay, also guys like Maxwell doing well which gives me a chance to pick wickets in the middle overs,” the spinner said.
