Monkeys, our close relatives, are also very social creatures. They have been known to demonstrate an array of emotions and feelings- like love, playfulness, anger, and even revenge and depression! Like human mothers, monkey-mothers are highly protective of their babies, and babies cling to their mothers, only wanting their protective hugs to give them the security they need at that age, and even getting depressed on being apart from them.
This beautiful mother-child bond in the primate kingdom was on full display in a video that has recently gone viral when a baby monkey who had been separated from his family to receive some medical treatment was able to reunite with his family after receiving a clean bill of health from his docs!
The video shows the baby being brought to the area his family lives, in a protective cage. After being carefully placed on the ground, this cage is opened and the little primate pops out excited! After taking a brief moment to assess his surroundings, the little one scrambles towards his family, who are lounging on the roof of a single-storey construction. It is at this moment that you can identify the mother from the entire group, as a dose of frantic excitement can be visibly seen flowing through her as she realises her little son might not be gone forever after all! And she sprints frantically towards the door where her baby tries to climb up and reach his family. This is totally a moment to see again and again! And of course, she’s there to receive her son even before he can climb to the roof- pulling him up and smothering her baby in her embrace. The equally excited son is only too ecstatic to finally merge in her embrace, as another monkey- perhaps a big brother joins in the group hug, which lasts for an eternity!
This video is so adorable, it will probably make you want to instantly go find your own mother and give her a tight hug! Watch it below:
