Ahsoka Tano is set to take on the role of Sabine Wren’s Jedi mentor in the series “Ahsoka,” a decision influenced significantly by Anakin Skywalker. Despite Anakin’s unconventional journey within the Jedi Order, he assumed the responsibility of training a Padawan soon after attaining the rank of a full-fledged Jedi at the commencement of the Clone Wars. Anakin’s eventual descent into the dark side didn’t alter the fact that he instilled essential teachings in Ahsoka, ones she is poised to share with Sabine in “Ahsoka.”

Anakin’s journey towards the dark side commenced shortly before the onset of the Clone Wars. Despite the war often exacerbating Anakin’s negative aspects, it also brought to light his positive qualities. Notably, Anakin’s empathy, benevolence, and unwavering loyalty, particularly towards his fellow Jedi clones, emerged as his defining characteristics in “Star Wars: The Clone Wars.” Subsequently, Ahsoka would come to uncover the truth about her former mentor in “Star Wars Rebels.” Even though Anakin’s transformation into the Sith Lord Darth Vader shattered her heart, she held onto the memory of the virtuous man he once was, and she retained the invaluable lessons she gleaned from him during her time as his Padawan.
Anakin Skywalker’s entry into the Jedi Order was remarkable due to his relatively advanced age compared to other initiates. Prior to joining, he had already formed deep connections with his mother and friends on his home planet of Tatooine. The Jedi Council expressed reservations about admitting Anakin, but they yielded to the idea because of his potential as the prophesied Chosen One mentioned in Jedi texts. Qui-Gon Jinn’s dying wish for Anakin to become a Jedi also played a role in their decision.
Crucially, Anakin’s eventual fall to the dark side wasn’t primarily caused by his age or his existing attachments. Instead, it resulted from his attachments becoming toxic, Palpatine’s manipulation, and the inherent flaws and emotionally strained lifestyle within the Jedi Order itself.
In “Star Wars Rebels,” Sabine’s Force sensitivity was not explicitly portrayed. However, the Force is an inherent part of all living beings, implying that even if her connection to it is faint, there’s potential for her to undergo training in its ways and potentially harness its power. This notion is particularly evident in the upcoming series “Ahsoka,” where it’s revealed that Ahsoka Tano will take on the role of Sabine’s Jedi mentor.
