Vishal Bhardwaj has teamed up with Tabu and Ali Fazal for his upcoming spy thriller, Khufiya. Netflix will have the film’s digital premiere. It is based on the espionage novel Escape to Nowhere by Amar Bhushan.
The plot revolves around Krishna Mehra, a RAW agent charged with the task of hunting down the spy who is trying to sell India’s defence secrets. Tabu, who plays both a lover and a spy in the film, delivers a monologue in the teaser that ends with hints of a mysterious ride.

“With Khufiya, my attempt is to create an edgy espionage film that contrasts the slow burn of intelligence & surveillance work with one’s deep rooted emotional conflicts,” Bhardwaj stated.
The book begins with a whistleblower arriving nervously to inform Jeevnathan, head of the security division of the Agency, India’s External Intelligence Service, of his suspicions about a senior colleague’s involvement in espionage.
An investigation is immediately launched, and Ravi, the suspect, is subjected to a stringent surveillance regime. The investigation uncovers a massive amount of evidence demonstrating the suspect stealing sensitive data.

As panic sets in, investigators argue bitterly about whether to let the suspect go free or physically force him to confess to his crime. The problem for Jeevnathan is also how to keep the tired viewers interested while persuading the tense Chief to stay on track.
Inspired by a true story from 2004 in which a senior intelligence officer believed to be a spy for decades vanished.

“Khufiya is a one-of-a-kind project, extremely close to my heart and I am excited to be a part of this gripping spy thriller. As always, it’s a delight working with VB (Vishal Bhardwaj) again, and feels like homecoming,” Tabu, Bhardwaj’s favourite, said of the project.
Khufiya also stars actors Wamiqa Gabbi and Ashish Vidyarthi.
