Bala, who co-wrote Bombay Velvet, describes the film as a neo-noir in which the “perfect plan” for something illegal devolves into total chaos in the lives of those engaged.

In Monica, O My Darling, the conduct is murder, which the character of Rajkumar Rao plans to commit. The minute-long Monica, O My Darling teaser was light on plot elements, focusing instead on some interactions between the main characters.

Huma Qureshi is but one figure who appears to be involved in some sort of organised crime. Rao, a mechatronics expert, devises a plan to carry out the perfect murder, leaving no DNA traces. This is supported by the official plot summary, which mentions “robots crushing human skulls,” as well as other thematic elements like lust, blackmail, and treachery.

Radhika Apte, who channels a distinct accent for this role, joins the scheme. Her character is unknown, but Monica, O My Darling sees her pairing up with screenwriter Yogesh Chandekar again. They previously collaborated on Andhadhun.

Monica, O My Darling also stars Bagavathi Perumal, Akansha Ranjan Kapoor, Sukant Goel, and Zayn Marie Khan along with Sikandar Kher as a humourous henchman.
