Indian badminton player Lakshya Sen broke into the top 10 of the Men’s Single rankings in March 2022, for the first time, and currently holds the ninth spot.
The 20-year-old’s rise had been coming since he started putting in impressive performances in the latter half of 2021.
Most recently, Sen made history by becoming the fourth Indian player to progress to the final of the All England Open Badminton Championships. Although he was defeated by world number one Viktor Axelsen, it was a remarkable feat nonetheless that put Sen in the history books.
“It’s been a long journey for me from Almora to the All England Open. I gave it my all on the court in the final yesterday vs Viktor but it wasn’t meant to be,” the 20-year-old said in a statement after his loss to Axelsen.
“I am overwhelmed and humbled with all the love and support I have received from so many fans in India and all over the world and just wanted to say a big ‘Thank You’ to everyone,” Sen added.
“For me, getting the chance to represent my country means everything to me. I am living my dream and will always give my 100% on the court,” the world number 9 concluded.
