Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar turned 54 on Thursday and on the occasion he shared a picture of himself with his mother, who died just a day before on Wednesday. The actor also wrote a heartfelt note to his mother on Twitter saying that he will celebrate the day because his mother would have wanted him to.

“Would have never liked it this way but am sure mom is singing Happy Birthday to me from right up there! Thanks to each one of you for your condolences and wishes alike. Life goes on,” wrote Akshay. He also attached an old picture of her mother kissing him on the cheek. Here’s the post!

The ‘Khiladi’ actor’s mother Aruna Bhatia died at Mumbai’s Hiranandani Hospital on Wednesday. Kumar on Monday returned to Mumbai from the UK, where he was shooting, to be with his ailing mother. She was unwell for a few days.

Before her passing away, Akshay asked his fans to pray for his mother’s health.

“Touched beyond words at your concern for my mom’s health. This is a very tough hour for me and my family. Every single prayer of yours would greatly help,” he wrote.

After her death, Kumar informed the fan that he was in deep pain post his mother’s demise.

“She was my core. And today I feel an unbearable pain at the very core of my existence. My maa Smt Aruna Bhatia peacefully left this world today morning and got reunited with my dad in the other world,” the actor wrote.

Kumar’s friends and colleagues from the industry paid condolences to the actor’s family. His ‘Airlift’ co-star Nimrat Kaur wrote, “So very sorry for your profound loss. Deepest condolences and my heartfelt prayers to you and the whole family in this grave hour. Satnaam wahe guru.”

Actor and friend Salman Khan also paid respects to Akshay’s mother. “Dear Akki, very sad to hear of the passing of your mother. May she rest in peace. My deepest condolences to you and your entire family,” he wrote on Twitter. 

Akshay Kumar turned 54 on Wednesday. He was last seen in Bell-Bottom which hit the theatres on August 19.
