His career started with the role of King Porus in the 1991 historical drama Chanakya, and Kunwar Singh in Swabhimaan, a Doordarshan soap opera. Apart from these, he also played the role of Huseyn Shaheed Suhrawardy, the Chief Minister of undivided Bengal in the 2000 movie Hey Ram, a controversial and critically acclaimed movie.
He was also a part of Kumkum - Ek Pyaara Sa Bandhan where he played the role of Harshvardhan Wadhwa, a grandfatherly character. After this, he was known for similar elderly roles in the 2000s.
