Cars on the Road is an American animated series produced by Pixar. This series consists of nine episodes and is an upcoming series under the Cars franchise that is all set to release on September 8, 2022. 

The Pixar series will be streaming on Disney+ and all nine episodes will premiere on the same day of its release. The storyline revolves around Lightning McQueen and Tow Mater as the leads on a cross-country road trip to attend the wedding of Mater’s sister.

This series has been spearheaded by acclaimed directors like Steve Purcell, Bobby Podesta and Brian Fee. These famous directors have also been previously involved in many films of the Cars franchise.  Cars on the Road is being produced by Marc Sondheimer, who has worked previously in the award-winning Pixar film Coco. The series score has been composed by Jake Monaco, the same person who gave the background score in  Scooby-Doo!

The official trailer of the upcoming series was launched on august 1, 2022 and it has over 4 million views on YouTube. Apart from the primary storyline, the anthropomorphic talking cars will also be seen in different scenarios like when they are being chased by dinosaur-like cars, or when they meet their new friend Ivy.  

The pre-production began two years and back and the project was announced on Disney Investors Day on December 10, 2020. The very next year the production team had also announced that certain characters from the Cars spin-off movies like Planes and Planes: Fire & Rescue will also make an appearance in the series.

Owen is returning as Lightning McQueen, Daniel Lawrence Whitney as Tow Mater and Bonnie Hunt as Sally Carrera. Cheech Marin will also make a return as the stylish lowrider Ramone. Though the trailer has yet not revealed the hippie Volkswagen, audiences can expect to see that character appearing in the series.
