Harry Styles has recently opened up on various aspects of his professional and personal life in a cover story for Rolling Stone. The former One Direction member, who is currently dating actress Olivia Wilde, will be seen in the film My Policeman, directed by Michael Grandage. The 28-year-old singer-songwriter will also appear alongside Wilde in the psychological thriller Don’t Worry Darling, set to hit the screens on September 23.

Styles himself will be donning the role of a policeman in My Policeman, where his character is a homosexual police personnel who begins having a secret affair with a museum curator (portrayed by David Dawson). Since the film is set in the 1950s, the two men have to be discreet about their relationship as Styles’ character settles into a domestic life with the character played by Emma Corrin.

Regarding his feelings about the character dealing with his sexuality, Styles said, “It’s obviously pretty unfathomable now to think, Oh, you couldn’t be gay. That was illegal. I think everyone, including myself, has your own journey with figuring out sexuality and getting more comfortable with it”.

While talking about the gay scenes he had to film with Dawson, Styles said that unlike most films that show two men in an intimate scene, My Policeman will portray such moments with a lot of tenderness. Styles also mentioned that it was director Michael Grandage’s choice “to show that it’s tender and loving and sensitive.”

During the interview, the musician-turned-actor also opened up about his relationship with Wilde, who is 10 years older than him. The couple have reportedly been at the receiving end of ridicule by a section of fans over their age difference. To this Styles commented, “It’s obviously a difficult feeling to feel like being close to me means you’re at the ransom of a corner of Twitter or something”.
