Hugh Jackman is making a sensational return in Deadpool 3 as Wolverine despite earlier announcing that 2017’s Logan would be the last time he would play the Marvel character.

In a podcast with Empire Film, the 54-year-old actor has revealed that Wolverine, and Ryan Reynold’s character Deadpool, will likely be at loggerheads with each other. He said that the two characters “hate each other” and are polar opposites, which means fans can expect some odd-pairing comedy in the upcoming film.

Regarding how Wolverine feels about Deadpool, Jackman said, “He’s annoyed by him,” further adding, “[Wolverine is] frustrated by [Deadpool and] wants to be a million miles away from him or wants to punch him in the head. Unfortunately, he can’t be a million miles away from him in this movie, so I’m probably going to punch him in the head a lot.”

As the Deadpool movies often break the fourth wall, one can expect the real-life camaraderie between the two stars to be addressed in the film. Jackman first played Wolverine back in 2000, in the first X-Men movie.

Jackman, in another interview with SiriusXM, said that him returning was made possible because “It’s all because of this device they have in the Marvel world of moving around timelines”. He added, “Now we can go back because, you know, it’s science. So, I don’t have to screw with the ‘Logan’ timeline, which was important to me. And I think probably to the fans too.”

Jackman, who has received all the EGOT awards except for the Oscar, said in an interview with Variety that he believes he will now be able to portray the character better since he has always been of the opinion that Wolverine is someone who feels comfortable in his skin. “And I feel more comfortable in my own skin now, even though it’s messier”, he added.
