South Korean singer HyunA announced her breakup with rapper Dawn on Wednesday.

In an Instagram post, the Trouble Maker singer wrote: “We broke up. We decided to remain as good friends and colleagues from now on. Thank you always for your support and for looking over us fondly.”

HyunA, whose original name is Kim Hyun-ah, started dating the 28-year-old rapper in May 2016. The two made their relationship public in 2018.

After HyunA shared the news of their breakup, K-pop fans were left in shock. Many of them wrote in the comments section of the post that they were distraught following the news. One user also wrote, “I’m crying.”

Several fans also expressed their shock on Twitter.

“dawn and hyuna’s break up really saddens me. they literally loved eo so much, wth happened!?” one user with handle @snowinks wrote.

Some fans wanted to know the reason behind the breakup as neither of the K-pop idols revealed why they ended their relationship.

“While we knew that [dating publicly] would cause us to be linked in some way, both of us felt that it would be hard to meet our fans’ eyes [while performing] on stage. We wanted to honestly tell our fans and show ourselves confidently having fun performing,”  HyunA and Dawn said in a statement while confirming their romance in 2018.

In February 2022, the duo announced their engagement. In a post on social media, they showed off their matching rings.

HyunA captioned the image, “MARRY ME.” Dawn shared a similar video, writing: “Of course, it’s a Yes.”
