The third season of The Mandalorian, which everyone has been eagerly anticipating is finally coming back after what seems like a lifetime on March 1, 2023. After a long-drawn three-year sabbatical, bounty hunter Din Djarin and his little Yoda companion Grogu are back on our televisions and our handy smartphones for a brand-new adventure that will take them both to unfamiliar parts of the galaxy and back to meet some familiar faces.

As the beloved character of Grogu is making his long-awaited return to our Tv screens and also our not-so-little smartphones here are some details about the character to help you jog through your memory before binging on Season 3 of The Mandalorian.

Who is Grogu?

Grogu is the deuteragonist of the Disney+ Star Wars series The Mandalorian and is most commonly known as “The Child” or more well known by the unofficial nom de plume “Baby Yoda.”

The iconic Grogu is a Force-sensitive 50-year-old infant of the same species as Yoda who is sought after by the Bounty Hunters’ Guild on behalf of the Imperial remnant.

Din Djarin adopts him as his son after finding him as a foundling among the Mandalorians. Later, Luke Skywalker temporarily takes him away to teach him in the ways of the Force, but he ultimately chooses against becoming a Jedi and goes back to his adoptive father.

Before surviving the end of the Clone Wars and Order 66, he was nurtured in the Jedi Temple on Coruscant and schooled by various Jedi. Grogu has been forced to suppress his Force prowess ever since he was forced into hiding in order to live.

What are Grogu’s powers and special abilities?

1) The Force:  As Grogu is a member of Yoda’s species, he has a remarkable affinity for the Force.

2) Telekinesis:  Grogu has the ability to telekinetically manipulate things or people without actually touching them. He may use this power for either attacking or defence purposes. Despite the fact that the effort required to accomplish it led the Child to pass out and not regain consciousness for several days, he is able to raise a beast to stop it from murdering the Mandalorian.

3) Force Barrier: Grogu possesses the ability to erect a wall or barrier of Force energy around himself or his friends. By making one to block an incineration stormtrooper’s fire stream, he is able to make one to save his friends.

4) Force Grip:  Grogu has the ability to telekinetically raise his opponents into the air and hold them there, sometimes by the neck, rendering them helpless. In order to save the Mandalorian, he raises a beast.

5) Force Choke: Grogu harnesses a crazy combination of powers, but his prowess is displayed truly when he uses his power to telekinetically strangle his adversaries in order to weaken, kill, or terrify them. He assumed Cara Dune was injuring Din Djarin, so he used this power to choke her, not understanding they were only having a fun arm wrestle. Late in the second season, the Empire kidnaps him, and he utilises this talent to torture two stormtroopers who try to capture him in his cell.

Grogu has a special ability to meditate in order to amplify his connection to The Force with a clear and tranquil mind.

Is Grogu coming back in Season 3?

Season 3 of The Mandalorian might leave viewers perplexed. After that heartbreaking cliffhanger in season 2, Mando and Grogu are undoubtedly back together, but when did that happen? The long-awaited reunion, however, was featured on a totally separate series: The Book of Boba Fett, a move that Star Wars TV executive producers Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni made with some hesitation. Fans will essentially have no understanding of what is really going on in the opening episode of The Mandalorian season 3 if they have not seen episodes 5-7 of that spinoff.

Here is the gist of what will likely be explained in a summary attached by Disney at the start of The Mandalorian season 3 but here is an easier explanation: After practicing with Luke Skywalker at his new Jedi academy for a while, Grogu changes his mind and realizes how much his adoptive father is missed. As a result, the Jedi Master sends him back to Tatooine on an X-wing, where Mando just so happens to be aiding Boba Fett and Fennec Shand in their battle against the Pyke Syndicate in a gang conflict.

Grogu aids Mando and his comrades in using the Force to put a ravaging infant rancour to sleep, sparing Mos Espa and Boba Fett’s criminal empire in the process. Din and Grogu depart aboard their brand-new Naboo N-1 Starfighter that Peli Motto repaired for them as The Book of Boba Fett comes to a close. Their next destination is of course, The Mandalore.
