Answer: Ganga

Ganga River has the longest section flowing through India.

Ganges River is the greatest river in the plains of the northern Indian subcontinent. Although officially as well as popularly called the Ganga in Hindi and in other Indian languages, internationally it is known by the name, The Ganges. From time immemorial it has been the holy river of Hinduism. For most of its course it is a wide and sluggish stream, flowing through one of the most fertile and densely populated regions in the world. Despite its importance, its length of 1,560 miles (2,510 km) is relatively short compared with the other great rivers of Asia  or of the world.

The Ganges rises in the southern Himalayas on the Indian side of the border with the Tibet Region of China. Ganga has five headstreams: the Bhagirathi, the Alaknanda, the Mandakini, the Dhauliganga, and the Pindal. All these rises in the mountainous region of northern Uttarakhand state. Of those, the two main headstreams are the Alaknanda  which rises about 30 miles (50 km) north of the Himalayan peak of Nanda Devi, and the Bhagirathi, which originates at about 10,000 feet (3,000 meters) above sea level in a subglacial meltwater cave at the base of the Himalayan glacier known as Gangotri. Gangotri itself is a sacred place for Hindu pilgrimage. The true source of the Ganges, however, is considered to be at Gaumukh, about 13 miles (21 km) southeast of Gangotri.

The Alaknanda and Bhagirathi rivers unite at Devprayag to form the main stream known as the Ganga, which cuts southwestward through the Shivalik Ranges at the northern edge of the Indo-Gangetic Plain to emerge from the mountains at Rishikesh.
