KBC 14: Which state government has partnered with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) for Data in Climate Resilient Agriculture (CRA)?

Answer: Telangana

Telangana has partnered with the United Nations Development Programme for Data in Climate Resilient Agriculture. The platform uses artificial intelligence to power it and aims to improve food security and food systems.

IT Minister KT Rama Rao said that is a significant step in our commitment to open data policy, service delivery to farmers, and anticipatory governance to address the world problem of food security.

Key features in Data in Climate Resilient Agriculture

DICRA can distinguish between farms that are highly vulnerable to climate change and those that are climate change-resilient using remote sensing and pattern identification algorithms.

On the basis of empirical inputs crowdsourced from hundreds of data scientists and citizen scientists on top-performing farms, it specifically uses open-source technology to promote analysis and insights sharing on climate resilience.

The impact of climate change on agriculture is multifold, affecting crop yield, nutritional quality and livestock productivity. Using remote sensing and pattern detection algorithms, DiCRA is able to identify farms that are resilient to climate change and those that are highly vulnerable.

The UNDP Administrator, Achim Steiner also said that “UNDP is working with governments and innovators to create the digital public goods of the future. That includes open-source software and open data sets that help tackle acute challenges like poverty and inequalities while driving progress across the sustainable development goals”.
