Titania made her Marvel Cinematic Debut in the first episode of She-Hulk: Attorney at Law. Fans of cable sitcoms will most likely recognise She- Hulk’s antagonist, Jameela Jamil in Kristen Bell’s comedy The Good Place, about a woman who dies and is surprised to discover she’s made it to the Good Place, aka Heaven.

In the comics, Mary McPherran is Titania, a supervillain who gained powers after a run-in with Doctor Doom, according to Marvel. Mary, who was bullied throughout her childhood, yearned for power and fame. When she and her friend (who later becomes Volcana) are forced to flee their hometown of Denver during the famous ’80s comic-run Secret Wars, Doctor Doom offers them the opportunity to gain superpowers and aid his army. Mary agrees and begins her villainous career, facing off against the Fantastic Four, Captain America, and any other superheroes who stand in her way.

Titania possesses Superhuman Strength, Endurance, and Stamina. The origins of these, at least in the comics, are mutagenic alterations by none other than Doctor Doom himself, who was attempting to recruit an army of supervillains during Secret Wars, a plot we could see play out properly in MCU Phase 6.

If the series is inspired by Mary’s childhood, it will be a story about how she was mocked and humiliated as a child by those wealthier and more privileged than herself, leaving her vulnerable to power fantasies that would be fulfilled by the first mysterious benefactor promising deadly powers, regardless of what strings appear to be attached.

This origin appears to be reflected in her resentment of Jennifer Walters, who in this instance had successfully established a platform based on her abilities before having the ground pulled out from under her by someone who was not only in a powerful profession but also had ties to Bruce Banner, a founding member of the Avengers, as Walters even shared Bruce’s abilities.

The final Marvel Cinematic Universe Phase 4 Disney+ show marks the end of a long drought for Hulk-focused content. Instead of focusing on Mark Ruffalo’s Hulk, She-Hulk focuses on his cousin Jennifer Walters (Tatiana Maslany) as she juggles her successful legal career and newfound Hulk powers.
